Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born at Lynn in Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jews Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. As a child, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father passed away, which caused her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to be an attendant or cleaner in order for them to remain alive. Ruth lived in a tenement community that was poor of Boston, Massachusetts, where she was educated. She left school after two short years to pursue acting. She faced many obstacles on the path she chose to pursue. Then, in New York she was hired to pose for photos in a crime magazine however, no theatre jobs were forthcoming. In New York, she was employed at a bar, as a check-in girl before quitting after a few months and moving to Boston. There she made a buck working as an usherette during the in the daytime, while at night she performing with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first acting job. In addition, she was a drama student and eventually graduated from the Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
